Dearest deviants,

We at the TheDragonAges are pleased to announce that we have a new folder available for our members.

:gallery: Dragon Age Original Characters (OCs)  :gallery:

This means that ALL and ANY FANART that depicts Dragon Age OCs will go here.

1) What do you mean by OC?

An OC in this instance is a fan-made character that is non-canon (i.e. not shown or mentioned in the original canon that the character is based in). So someone like the God-baby or Amethyne is NOT an OC. But a Antivan Crow who bears NO similarity (in name, personality and/or appearance) to any of the "mentioned" NPCs in the Dragon Age universe? That will be considered an OC.

2) What sort of art can be accepted into the OC folder?

The OC(s) must have a VERY clear connection to the Dragon Age setting and timeline. Which means that if there isn't an obvious indication in the image that the OC is from Thedas and actually inhabits the world, the picture will NOT be accepted.

So a generic high-fantasy portrait? NOT accepted.

A portrait that shows the character wearing Dragon-Age-style clothing, wielding Dragon-Age-style weapons, have tattoos specific to Dragon Age, and/or with a background that is clearly a location in Thedas? That can be accepted, if the mods are satisfied that the OC looks like they belong in Thedas.

Example:

:thumb267263267: <--- Will be accepted, since there is 1) what is obviously an Arcane Horror in the background, and 2) the armour of the leftmost character is clearly Dragon Age inspired.

:thumb228666208: <--- Nope, not accepted. Nothing in the image suggests that this is a character that would come from Dragon Age.

3) What happens if I have an OC and a canon character interacting in the same image?

That would go into this folder, as well. For consistency's stake, the Team and Group pictures folder will only accept fanart that shows ONLY canon characters.

We would also like to make some additional clarifications on the following folders

:gallery: Companions and NPC portraits  :gallery:

This folder is for SOLO PORTRAITS of Dragon Age Universe Canon NPCs and Companions. Which means only ONE NPC or Companion at a time should be shown in the fanart. Exceptions would be a DA2 Anders+Justice (since they are, technically, inhabiting the same body), and a "set" of singular portraits, like this:

:gallery: Team and Group Pictures  :gallery:

Pictures of groups of Canon characters with or without Wardens/Hawkes, companions or other NPCs, in situations non-romantic AND PG-13. If there are romantic overtones, please put them in the Romance folder. If there is ANYTHING that is NSFW (i.e. not the sort you'd want your grandparents and/or boss to see over your shoulder), romantic or not, they go into the Mature Content folder.

:bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen: :bulletgreen:

That is all for now. Thanks for sharing your deviations with us, and keep creating!

PS. I'm trying out how to get journal skins for group journals. This one is by the awesome :iconinversereality-2:! Yay! -victricia
PPS. The Journal was written by DragonReine, but due to some unfortunate settings, she can't currently post to the journal, and I'm not able to give her the permission to freely do so. So this is what we do for the time being. XD

I'm a bit confused about the art guidelines. What if the OC portrait is a plain human, or elf, or dwarf, in common clothes (or even naked!!!), but his/her backstory is clearly attached to the Dragon Age settings? Isn't it a bit discriminatory that you can't submitt them to the OC folder? I mean, my favourite OC right now is a City Elf, born in Denerim Alienage, but she doesn't wear any kind of uniform or armor from the game, and I don't tend to draw backgrounds in my drawings. Then I can't submit portraits of her? Or can I, as long as I talk about her background in the comments?
